• Bankruptcy
  With the slight decline of real estate transactional activity, we note an upswing in restructuring and bankruptcy. There is a need for experienced attorneys to handle chapter 11 cases and international restructuring representing secured creditors, debtors and equity holders. Distressed commercial real estate restructuring transactions abound, and we need attorneys representing lenders and borrowers, and attorneys who can advise secured lenders on enforcement and bankruptcy strategies. Partner and associate positions are available, and a few firms are considering adding small bankruptcy groups.
  
  
• Corporate
  The market is very busy -- currently, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, China -- firms are seeking junior and mid-level corporate associates, partners with books, and small groups. Securities, finance, IPOs and M&A are especially strong, and we offer positions involving secured lending and venture capital. We have many banking and finance positions. Once again, Silicon Valley leads the way in a strong corporate market, but there is an emergent growth in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong as well as the San Diego and Orange County markets.
  
  
• Employment & Labor
  Employment litigators are in high demand! Several national and regional firms have stepped up their demands for Labor & Employment work, usually desiring a mix of litigation and counseling work. Wage and hour class action experience a plus. Associates and partners are encouraged to consider our portfolio of active listings.
  
  
• Entertainment
  This is perhaps the most competitive area of law in California, yet firms have a fairly steady need for entertainment lawyers, both in litigation and on the transactional side, and most will hire opportunistically if an excellent resume is presented. We also handle in-house entertainment positions.
  
  
• Environmental
  There is a demand for environmental lawyers in the land use, CEQA, natural resources, regulatory and compliance areas. Several Los Angeles and Bay Area firms have asked us to locate junior, mid-level and senior environmental associates, as well as partners in both litigation and transactional capacities to fill their environmental ranks. Water Law is emerging as a growth area, and we have great needs for public and municipal law experience.
  
  
• Erisa, Tax, and Estate Planning
  We have hiring needs in these areas selectively. Excellent firms are seeking all levels of attorneys (junior to very senior).
  
  
• Health Care
  There is a need for litigation, regulatory and transactional attorneys in the health care arena.

• Intellectual Property
  We are seeking patent prosecutors, patent litigators, trademark, copyright, and experience in a combination of all. We also are seeing a greater need for licensing associates. We have positions available for attorneys with EE, physics, computer science, biotech, chemistry, ME and biomedical degrees, as well as non-technical undergraduate degrees. Opportunities exist up and down the California coast, and there is a particularly strong need for those with Ph.D.'s and M.S. credentials in the biotech area, as well as Electrical Engineering backgrounds.
  
  
• Litigation
  There is a steady demand for good litigators, from junior associates to partner-level attorneys.A wide variety of firms are seeking litigators in the areas of general commercial litigation, securities, white collar, labor, insurance coverage, health care, real estate, IP and antitrust.The Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County firms, national firms and small boutique shops are interested in strong litigation resumes.
  
  
• Real Estate
  Commercial real estate work has slowed across the board due in part to the subprime mortgage crisis, and the slowdown is a reflection of the general economic outlook. Partners with portable books are always marketable in this area, and experience in land use or environmental law is helpful. There is a trend to put real estate associate hiring “on hold”, although we do have several immediate needs to fill.
  
  
• Tech Transactions
  There is a resurgence of interest in tech transactions in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Orange County and, to a lesser extent, San Diego. "Soft IP" (licensing, trademark, copyright, merchandising/branding, domain name proceedings); new media (e-commerce, advertising, Internet, digitized media, brand integration, product placement, TVO), emerging technologies; and entertainment (traditional entertainment and technology, including digital cinema and video on demand) offer expanding opportunities within law firms.
